It will be our pleasure to welcome you to Munich, a city with a relationship of over one hundred years with psychiatry, represented by some of the most remarkable researchers and psychiatrists such as Emil Kraepelin and Alois Alzheimer and still hosting a very active psychiatric research scene. Munich is an appealing city, especially the old centre and the surrounding scenery of lakes and mountains. Munich is closely linked with art and culture. EPA plans to offer you a high-quality, multidisciplinary scientific programme that will provide a full review of the most important aspects of diagnosis and treatment in psychiatry and of the latest achievements in this field. Under the motto “Improve the quality of psychiatric research and treatment in Europe”, as a tribute to the EPA inner mission in Europe, the congress highlights will include presentations by outstanding European and International experts in psychiatry. The scientific programme will be composed of plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, a three-day integrated young psychiatrists’ programme and 13 CME courses, and will be completed by satellite symposia organised by leading pharmaceutical companies. Clinicians and researchers of all generations are encouraged to become actively involved in the exchange of knowledge and experience by contributing to the scientific programme of our Congress. EPA is committed to integrating new practices in its head office, congresses and promotional activities that will reflect our ethos for change and eco-conscience. We believe that as a continental society EPA has a voice and a responsibility not only to act but also to spread the message to our members and colleagues. GREEN MEETING EPA and appointed congress organiser Kenes International are devoted to considering environmentally friendly practice at the European Congress of Psychiatry and in all of our operations. Our responsibility to our congress participants, staff, environment and society is paramount in all of our decisions, policies and practices. We continue to learn and strive to integrate new practices all the time. At present, here are a few of the practices we have undertaken for EPA 2010: • Promotional materials (including this brochure) are being printed on paper that is PEFC approved. The PEFC is an organization that certifies paper manufacturers which keep to sustainable forest management criteria. • Reduced plastic registration envelopes. • Name tags at congresses can be deposited when participants leave the meeting and these will be re-used. • At the congress we will recycle plastic, glass, cans and paper. • Environmentally conscious offices (amongst other things, we recycle all our waste, including organic waste for compost, integrated energy saving fixtures throughout the building and use only recycled paper). GREEN PARTICIPANTS Offset your Carbon Footprint – You can contribute to our ecological efforts by offsetting the Carbon Footprint of your travels to EPA 2010. A Carbon Offset represents a reduction in emissions somewhere else – like a wind farm in Texas or a reforestation project in Nicaragua – to balance out the emissions you cannot reduce.
